Hi! Welcome! Are you in the beginning phases of affiliate marketing and are looking for relevant and helpful information? Well, you have come to the right place, as that is our primary mission here at The Surfing Affiliate. So one of the easiest ways to get into affiliate marketing is by having a blog website. But what exactly is a blog post?
Well, by referring to the dictionary, a blog is “a regularly updated website that is written in an informal or conversational style.” Think of it as talking to a friend. So a blog post is a piece of writing or some other form of content that you put on a blog.
Today I would like to show you how easy it is to start your website and blog in under an hour. Under an hour, you say. Well, not, if we are counting the time to create content, but if referring to setting up a website, absolutely! (More on this later)
How to Blog the Right Way-Page or Post?
First up, right off the bat, what is the difference between a post and a page on a blog? You can think of it this way- a page is a standalone information which never changes and is not up for comment. While a post, on the other hand, is time-sensitive information that encourages interaction.
Once you start blogging, you will be linking and referring your pages, within your posts.
For example, you write out a post review of five products- highlighting certain features and all awhile asking your audience questions.
Within this blog, you will be linking pages which will concentrate on featuring only one item alone. On this page, you will place your affiliate links, whether in a text phrase, in a few banners, or you can link them to a photo. (Click on the above link for more information on how to add links in WordPress)
All in all, this strategy is better, as the reader of the blog will not be bombarded with advertisements which could interfere with the reader’s overall experience, and they may become annoyed by it all and leave.
The lesson to take away here is that less is more. So the final word is that you are supposed to use a post when writing out your blog. And within your blog, encourage engagement by asking questions.
Do You Have a Blogging Website?
As I said up above, to start blogging, the easiest way is to have a personal website. When I first started, I signed up to SiteRubix and made my very first free website over there.
I have written extensively here if you would like to take a few minutes, please go and take a look. I will wait.
Having a personal website ensures you that you can write whatever you would like. The same holds true concerning what affiliate products that you wish to represent.
You are the boss. You are in the driver’s seat, so feel free to write about your passion and expertise.
There is no ‘right-way” per se, but only your way.
Blogging does take quite a bit of time, especially when you are first starting. But as they say, “practice makes perfect!” Keep at it and never give up.
Finding Your Niche and Your Passion in Blogging
One of the most critical steps that you will find when you are first starting in blogging is figuring out what you want to write about? What do you know that will help others?
Pick something and try to narrow it down. That is what a niche is a narrow concentration within a broader subject.
You will find that the more narrow your niche is, the easier it will be to find products and services to promote as an online affiliate marketer. On a side note, I have also written extensively previously on how to find a niche and the basics of niche marketing. If you would like more information, please click on the provided link. Go ahead; I will wait again.

How to Research Your Target Blogging Audience
So the next step for you is to look at the top 10 niches in affiliate marketing and figure out which one resonates with you. Once you define your niche, you are halfway done.
OK, so you have a website, and you have defined your niche. What is the next step before you start to create blogging content?
I would suggest that first you take a day and research your niche. The longer you study your competition, the easier it will be for you to create content.
Tip- I find that the more information that I gather before sitting down to write my blog, helps me set up an outline to follow, which makes the writing process so much easier.
While researching, take note of all the questions that are being asked. Can you think of a way to answer any of the questions? What product or service might be desired within your chosen niche.
One place that I like to frequent when researching is Forums. Here you will find loads of information about how others feel concerning the problems they are having, as well as others offering suggestions.
Take note of who is asking the questions. Doing this will help you understand what others are expecting or what they are looking for in terms of products.
Researching also gives you an idea of what and who the population is that you are targeting. It will also give you a better idea of how to write and communicate properly.
What are Blog Post Keywords?
While researching, you will come across ‘keywords.” A keyword is what the reader punches into the search results to find information. So your next step will be to make a list of keywords that you can write your content about.
There are several ways you can go about doing this. I will start with the easiest and practical. Have you ever heard of the Alphabet Soup Technique? You input a keyword into a search engine and then with the next word you start going down the alphabet. Here is an example-
Another way to find keywords is by, you guessed it, a keyword finder.
I belong to an online university/affiliate marketing platform, Wealthy Affiliate, and we have free use of the keyword finder, Jaaxy.
What makes Jaaxy so unique, is that is not only a keyword finder, but it can also help you find profitable niches that coincide with the hottest trends; as well as, how to find the best affiliate program to join. Go ahead and give it a try today, as there is a free version which allows you 30 keyword searches!
There are several other great features; such as domain research as well as a feature where you can see where your website ranks for any given keyword. If you would like more information click on the link below.
Affiliate Marketing With Blog Posts
On to the next step. Affiliate marketing with blog posts may feel intimidating at first, but once you come up with a game plan, things seem to fall into place, with practice of course. Let’s reiterate what we have gone over so far, an elaborate a bit.
So you have researched your target audience, chosen a few keywords, and have now come up with a few ideas of what you would like to promote.
Here is a little tidbit, say you have a product in mind that you would like to blog about.
I recommend, before heading over to an affiliate marketplace such as CJ Affiliates, ShareaSale, or ClickBank (an affiliate marketplace has hundreds of affiliate programs listed in one place), that you go directly to the seller and see if they have an affiliate program.
Working one on one with a business is better, in my opinion. All you have to do is go to the bottom footer of the businesses’ website to see if they indeed offer an affiliate program.
If not, then is the time to head over the affiliate marketplace to see what other products are similar. Don’t get me wrong, affiliate marketplaces do have one great advantage, as you only have to write one profile.
This one profile is all you will need to send when signing up to join any of the affiliate programs listed within the affiliate marketplace.
Blog, Blog, and Blog Some More!
What makes blogs work, is that eventually, you will have written a plethora of information, that hopefully people will appreciate and share.
Attempting to begin affiliate marketing without a blog would be incredibly hard. But you want to show others that you are passionate about what you are writing about, so make sure to update your content on a regular frequency.
If possible, I would suggest adding at least two blog posts per week.
Another great advantage of blogging regularly is that this will work in your favor in terms of ranking in the search engines. You see, Google is looking for the best information possible, so a blog with a bunch of posts is going to outrank those of us just starting.
The key is not to give up! Perseverance and commitment to your website will pay off eventually. Keep at it as much as you can. Remember, there is light at the end of the tunnel. It is just that sometimes it takes longer to get there than expected. Persistence is key!
On a side note, I would like to add about the importance of having error-free content. In my opinion, a basic spellcheck application does not cut it. I am the worse speller (I admit it!) and a bit dyslexic, so I have become addicted to the number one grammar and spellchecker, Grammarly.
Grammarly has become my number one affiliate marketing tool that I have found so far. To say that I need Grammarly to write error-free content is an understatement. I have written previously about my love for Grammarly, so if you would like more in-depth information, please click on the link above.
Best Affiliate Programs for Bloggers
So after we have set up our website, written some content (via keyword) and researched our niche, the next step is to join some affiliate programs.
Down below, I have listed the five best affiliate programs for bloggers. If you would like more information about each of these affiliate programs, I have written a more in-depth explanation of each program, so please click on the link provided above.
- Amazon Associates
- Target Affiliates
- eBay Partner Network
- Walmart Affiliates
- Etsy Affiliates
How to Promote Your Blog Post
Before I leave you, I would like to go over some terrific ways that you can promote your blog.
Do you happen to remember earlier how I mentioned forums are a great place to research? Well, they are just as good of a place for advertising. Make sure only to link your blog if it is pertinent to the question. Also, do not just post your blog link! Write out the answer to the question asked and incorporate a link within your answer. If you think about it, readers need to trust you before clicking on your link. So, keep this in mind.
You do not want to go in there and spam the place with your material. Social Media is also a great idea. Here you have the chance for others to not only reading your content but maybe even share it! Traffic is what we are after.
My favorite place to post my blog post is on Pinterest. In this day and age, people have become very visual, so this is where I get the most traffic out of all the other platforms.
Another powerhouse is YouTube.
I read an article a while back, and it stated that seniors (65 and up) are the fastest growing population on social media, and they prefer watching things rather than reading. So keep this in mind.
Another tidbit- As of June 27, 2019, Tumblr is the fastest growing social media platform! Two others that are not far behind are Reddit and Quora.
Make some new profiles now and share your content!
Setting Up a Blog Website
Do you remember how I said that you could set up a blogging website up in under an hour? What I was referring to was SiteRubix, where you can set up two free sites. Interested? How about learning the correct strategies for affiliate marketing?
Do you also happen to remember how I mentioned that I belong to an online university/ affiliate platform? Well, this platform is called Wealthy Affiliate, which has been online since 2005 and is one of the best places for beginners to learn all about affiliate marketing.
The owners and creators Kyle and Carson have been leaders in the industry and created Wealthy Affiliate with the sole purpose of teaching correct methods to achieve success in affiliate marketing. I will leave links below if you would like more information.
Final Thoughts on Blogging
I hope that I answered the question and defined what a blog post is. Blogging can be a bit intimidating when you are first starting, but you will see that with hard work and consistency, you can make it happen.
You have to remember to keep it up and do not give up. Some days you will want to pull your hair out, and that is OK. We have all be there.
But if you’re going to have a successful blog, you need to remember that consistently adding content is key along with sharing your content frequently via social media or even in email campaigns.
So to summarize-
- Set up a blogging website (SiteRubix)
- Define your niche and research affiliate programs/products
- Research and come up with keywords (Jaaxy), (Alphabet Soup Technique)
- Write error-free content (Grammarly)
- Share Content on social media frequently
- Repeat steps 3-5 again and again and again some more!
So what do you think? Do you have anything else to add? Please feel free to leave any comments or questions down below. I am anxious to hear from you! I hope I hear from you soon.
Good luck, you got this!!
Happy Blogging and here is to your immeasurable success! Remember, do not give up!
